Tenure and Service

Councilwoman Kim Alves is currently serving her sixth term on the North Smithfield Town Council. Her service to the town spans over a decade, having been elected to three consecutive terms beginning in 2010 (2010, 2012, and 2014). After a four-year hiatus from the Council starting in 2016, she returned to public office in 2020 and has been re-elected in every subsequent cycle (2022 and 2024).

Legislative Focus and Advocacy

Throughout her recent terms, Councilwoman Alves has positioned herself as an advocate for structural reform within town government. Her primary areas of focus include:

  • Employee Protections: Advocating for the hiring of an independent Human Resources Manager to provide professional oversight and support for town staff.

  • Environmental Oversight: Supporting the establishment of the Groundwater Protection Committee to address long-term water security and environmental hazards.

  • Fiscal Accountability: Promoting increased transparency and oversight regarding the town's financial management and project spending.

2024–2026 Term Objectives
